About
This is probably what you want to know: Am I the right photographer for your project?
A lot goes into the answer.
First, a bit about my background: I’ve been a professional commercial photographer for over 25 years, but I’ve been passionate about photography since I was a kid. My father was a photographer and I grew up learning from him about cameras, lighting, composition, and processing - developing my own black and white prints in his darkroom. And although I sometimes wish we could all go back to the days of shooting rolls of Kodak Tri-X Pan, I am fully committed to the digital workflows and lighting technologies that are reshaping the world of photography.
As a commercial photographer, I specialize in food and beverage, architectural and interior design, industrial, catalogue, healthcare, and lifestyle photography for regional and international clients. I work for some of the finest clients in the Evansville area, but I also travel to Nashville, St. Louis, Louisville, and Indianapolis for projects. I am always ready to pack up my gear and go.
When you look through my portfolio, you’ll see that I especially love to photograph food and beverages. I’m intrigued by the array of colors, textures, shapes and reflective qualities that I find even in something as simple as a stack of pancakes or a bottle of beer packed in ice. I also enjoy still life and industrial assignments for the unique surfaces, shapes and lighting conditions they can bring. Even though I’ve been shooting for most of my life, I still approach each project as an opportunity to capture images that feel new and fresh, and help my clients tell their story visually.
In terms of visual style, I have a wide range, but I lean towards a natural style, with a little punch and a nice fall-off. Lighting is my strongest asset – bending a highlight or stretching a shadow to create a mood. Clients describe my images as robust, believable, clean and intriguing.
My images have won numerous photography and advertising awards, including national ADDYs, and I give back to the local photography community by teaching and giving demonstrations on advanced photography, studio lighting technique, and ICC color profiles and digital workflow at a local college.
Of course, technical and aesthetic ability are critically important, but I feel that every successful photography assignment begins with good communication. I pride myself on my ability to understand what my clients are looking for before we start shooting, which allows me to focus on the image and ensure that the only surprises we encounter along the way are the good kind –better images, a more relaxed and enjoyable process, and coming in under budget (it happens).
So, the answer is yes, if you’re looking for an accomplished photographer who has the skills and the passion it takes to create memorable, exciting images, there’s a very good chance that I’m the right photographer for you. Give me a call or send me an email. I’d love the opportunity to help you tell your story.
